# Student Tech & Parental Controls: Back-to-School Guide

Back-to-school season can make home tech feel a little chaotic. Between laptops, tablets, school apps, passwords, and screen-time worries, it is easy for families to feel like they are already behind before the first assignment is even due. The good news is that you do not need a complicated setup to help your child stay organized, focused, and safer online.

## Start with a simple tech reset

Before schoolwork ramps up, take a few minutes to clean up the devices your student will actually use. Remove apps they no longer need, close old browser tabs, and make sure the device has current software updates installed. This small reset can prevent a lot of frustration later.

It also helps to check a few basics:

- Make sure the device charges reliably.
- Confirm the webcam, microphone, and Wi-Fi connection work.
- Sign in to the school portal, email, and any learning apps before the first busy week.

Think of this like laying out school supplies the night before class starts. A little prep makes the morning feel much easier.

## Pick a few core tools and keep them consistent

Many families get overwhelmed because every subject, teacher, and activity seems to involve a different app. Instead of trying to master everything at once, focus on a small set of tools your student will use most often.

That usually means:

- One calendar for due dates and events
- One place for notes or homework lists
- One cloud storage location for school files
